Just two days after celebrating a win in the Women’s Super League Grand Final, our Ladies have even more to cheer! 10 of them will be flying the flag for England – and Bradford! – at the Women’s World Cup in Australia.
After winning the Challenge Cup, going unbeaten throughout the whole Super League season and then thrashing Featherstone in the Grand Final in Manchester on Saturday lunchtime, it perhaps isn’t surprising that our lasses have dominated the England squad. There’ll be ten of them there, plus five from Fev, seven from Thatto Heath – St Helens and one from Castleford Tigers.
Our England women’s contingent will be Amy Hardcastle, Beth Sutcliffe, Charlotte Booth, Claire Garner, Danika Priim, Jessica Courtman, Kirsty Moroney, Lois Forsell, Shona Hoyle and Stacey White. Congratulations to all of them – we’re sure that you’ll do us proud!
They’ll travel to Australia on November 10th and the games will be as follows:
Round One – England v PNG. Thursday, November 16, 6.30pm kick-off (AEDT)
Round Two – Australia v England. Sunday, November 19, 1.45pm kick-off (AEDT)
Round Three – England v Cook Islands. Wednesday, November 22, 1.45pm kick-off (AEDT)
Semi-Finals – Sunday, November 26 at either 1.45pm or 4.00pm (AEDT)
If England make it that far, the Final will be held as the curtain raiser for the men’s World Cup Final at Lang Park on December 2nd.
Let’s hope that we’ll have 10 players there at the start of December – and maybe two more, as Elliot Whitehead and John Bateman have been picked for the blokes as well!
